Yokohama Travel Guide
The city of Yokohama faces the Tokyo Bay and is the largest city in Kanagawa Prefecture. Located approximately 30 km south of Tokyo, this port city is visited by 42 million tourists each year (as of 2008). Yokohama has historically played an important role in Japan's westernization from the times of the Meji Restoration, and its cosmopolitan culture still lives in the city. In the old Bluff area where westerners first settled, historic buildings have been restored and turned into small museums, cafes and restaurants. Chinatown, the largest in Japan, and Motomachi are both popular tourist destinations among the Japanese as well as foreigners. The bayside area is Yokohama's new developed commercial and business center. Hotels, shopping and convention centers offer the latest in dining, fashion, and amusement experiences.
