Boasting a collection of roughly 4,000 works, the Museum features permanent exhibitions where visitors can view the highlights of modern art along with special project exhibitions (starting with the large-scale International Exhibition) - all together, the museum has exhibitions encompassing a wide range of modern art fields, from pictures and paintings to sculptures, fashion, architecture and design.
The museum also features an art library of roughly 100,000 books and regularly hosts lectures, conferences and workshops to support arts education and information dissemination.
The museum features an ever-moving space where contemporary art can be felt through the skin. The Museum Library received the materials of the Archive Room at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (1976-1995) upon its closing and decided to continue this collection by going on to further collect and preserve documents and books - mostly in the field of modern-era art - and is now a specialist library with a large range of books on offer. It also contains books and catalogues on museum exhibitions and admission is free.
