Back in the feudal age when the means of transportation were the horse, palanquin or your own foot, Shinagawa served as an important station for those who traveled the Tokaido road to Kyoto. It is now a hub station for the bullet train and trains to various destinations, including Narita and Haneda International Airports. Tall buildings of major corporations line on the east side and major hotels concentrate on the west side of the station. There are many restaurants, a cinema complex, an aquarium, and shopping centers in the vicinity.
