Nezu Museum

Nezu Museum was founded in 1940 to preserve and exhibit the private collection of the renowned entrepreneur Nezu Kaichiro (1860-1940), the founder of Tobu Railway group. The museum has always been known for its emphasis on art pieces related to tea ceremonies, and housed 4,643 items at the time of its inception. Now the number stands at 6,874 (as of May, 2009).

The collections include seven National treasures, 87 Important Cultural Properties, and 96 art treasures, ranging from paintings, calligraphy and folding-screens of Edo period, to lacquerware, Chinese bronzes and various archaeological materials.

Another highlight of the museum is the spacious garden embraced in lush green, and dotted with stone lanterns, stupas and a tea house. The cobbled path in the quiet offers a delightful stroll.
