Odaiba is an area built on reclaimed land in Tokyo's Minato Ward. The name originates from cannon batteries, Daiba, built by the Tokugawa Shogunate on man-made islands in order to save the city from enemy attacks. Out of respect to the Shogunate, the honorific prefix "O" was added making "Odaiba" the name. There are too many attractions to see within one day, but the Odaiba Kaihin Park with its artificial beach, the Great Ferris Wheel and huge shopping malls are good places to start from. At the Oedo Hot Springs, guests can bathe in natural hot spring water pumped up from 1,400 meters deep. Odaiba, Tokyo's developed waterfront area is also known for its futuristic skyline. The view of Rainbow Bridge at night seen from Odaiba is a popular attraction among young couples.
