Shotaro Ishinomori Hometown Memorial

Shotaro Ishinomori Hometown Memorial

The Shotaro Ishinomori Memorial Museum was opened in July 2000 in his hometown in Ishinomori, Tome city of Miyagi prefecture, in honor of the legendary manga artist and animator "Shotaro Ishinomori." He coined his penname after his town of birth.

On display in the gallery is an extensive retrospect of Ishinomori's artwork and other materials demonstrating the prolific life of this manga giant. You can also find a replica of his room at the legendary Tokiwa-so apartment house, where he spent his early days as an aspiring artist.

Another eye-catcher is the congratulatory folding fan which manga artist friends presented to him as a gift. In the museum's theater, screenings of "Ogawa no medaka"--an animated story produced exclusively for the museum--are held. Be sure also to stop by his birthplace nearby, open to pubic free of charge.
