A "phantom" work of manga titan, Leiji Matsumoto, will be adapted into an anime. The manga is called "Ozma", and was created by Leiji Matsumoto in the 80's. The 2012 TV anime series will be based off hereto unpublished scenes.
The story is set on a futuristic Earth that has suffered desertification, and revolves around a mysterious, giant, mobile object known as Ozma. It's one of Leiji Matsumoto's epic SF stories, with a well-developed plot full of human drama, and a parade of mysteries that keeps you coming back for more.
Satellite broadcasting station WOWOW's involvement has been creating buzz, and the film will mark WOWOW's 20th year anniversary. WOWOW was previously involved in the production of anime, such as "Brain Powered" and "Paranoia Agent", but hasn't produced anything new for quite some time now.
Over the past two years, WOWOW has been steadily adding more channels to their service, placing a particular emphasis on anime channels. By rerunning popular titles, the service has been gaining a foothold in the anime broadcasting market, and the production of "Ozma" seems to be a move to consolidate that hold. Many are keeping an eye on this new project, and also looking out for WOWOW's next move.
The staff reflects the scale of the project, with Ryosuke Takahashi, the director of the "Votoms" series, serving as general manager. Both Ryosuke Takahashi and Leiji Matsumoto are big names in the industry. The anime is directed by Takahiro Ikezoe, with the script written by Junki Takegami, the scriptwriter of "ONE PIECE".
The series will be shown on WOWOW, and begin March 16th. The episodes will air every Friday from 00:00 am. The first episode will be available for free--with anyone having a satellite receiver being able to view it--and gives potential viewers a look into the series.
