On December 7th, Ichiro Mizuki--who remains popular with both young and old alike--will be releasing a DVD titled "Mizuki Ichiro TV Theme Song Collection" to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his anime song career. The DVD includes 104 of his hit songs from various anime films and special-effect programs.
Ichiro Mizuki signed on with Nippon Columbia and made his debut in 1968. In 1971 he recorded his firt anime song, "Genshi shounen Ryu ga iku", for the anime, "Genshi Shonen Ryu", and began his career in anime and special effect production songs.
He performed songs for countless hits such as "Mazinger Z", "Space Pirate Captain Harlock", "Chojin Barom 1", "Kamen Rider X", "Ganbare!! Robokon", "Kaiketsu Zubat". He recorded over 1000 songs, is called "aniki (short for anime king)" by fans, and is known as the "emperor of the anime song world."
In addition to the songs, the DVD includes original TV footage from when the theme songs were aired, tickers, and the special effect sounds that went with it. The rare anime and special effect production footage, combined with the 40-page commentary guide, make for a nostalgic ride. The two DVDs combined are a total of 128 minutes and are priced at 9240 yen.
The concert "Ichiro Mizuki--TV Manga Theme Song History", will also be held on December 11th to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his career. Like the DVD, it will showcase the magic of Ichiro Mizuki's music, and special features are being planned.
The concert will be held at Shibuya OーEAST and begin at 17:00 pm. Advance tickets cost 6000 yen for a reserved seat (tax included, drinks not included), and 5500 yen for non-reserved seats (tax included, drinks not included).
