PROFILE

Mai Matsumura is a female animator who majored in visual concept planning and graduated from Osaka University of Arts in 2001.

In 2003 she debut the animation film, "Kapporopitta - Let's Have a Meal Together", about hungry creatures and a boy who refuses to eat. The animation won her various awards at home and abroad. Her animation series, "Maho Shokudo Charapontan" was aired on WOWWOW in 2006, and was quickly followed by a DVD release.

She is best known for her distinctive use of black in illustrations, which contrasts with the otherwise colorful atmosphere. Her romantic imagery, cynical characters, and mouth watering images of food all heighten the senses and draw us into her world.
